The Role:

This role would suit a recent Engineering graduate. Experience of the broadcast industry would be very beneficial although full training will be given. You will work 12 hour shifts (3 days/3 nights/3 off) in a busy MCR and have overall responsibility for transmission during your shift.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Recent Engineering degree
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • High level of numeracy
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office
  • Ability to problem solve, without delay, in a highly pressurised environment
  • Effective time management and organisational skills and the ability to prioritise own workload
  • Strong ability to work with engineering support to match technical solutions with channel requirements
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Eagerness to learn and work with new systems
  • The ability to demonstrate initiative and work flexibly and adapt to changing circumstances
  • A genuine passion for broadcast television.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing playlists including import, manipulation, re-timing and monitoring
  • Ingesting and recording of feeds
  • Technical QC of all incoming material
  • Compliance QC of all UK playout material
  • Preparing secondary events for playout, including graphics and subtitles
  • Manually triggering graphics when required
  • Handling on-air emergencies, calmly, logically and professionally
  • Fault tracing along the broadcast chain and liaising with third party suppliers
  • Providing first line engineering support across the entire MCR
  • Escalating to management and senior engineers as required
  • Incident logging and reporting
  • Receiving and handling incoming telephone calls from clients in a professional manner.


  • Reporting to: Head of Broadcast Operations and Operations Supervisor
  • Salary: £25,200 per annum (paid hourly) increasing each year dependent upon performance
