IPTV fever hits Hungary

IPTV is starting to take off in Hungary, with at least two companies having announced plans in the first half of this month to offer services. T-Online, a subsidiary of the incumbent telco Magyar Telecom and the country's largest ISP, has begun trials and expects to launch a platform targeting its 200,000 ADSL subscribers in the second half of this year.

The Budapest-based ISP TvNet meanwhile recently launched a third generation (ADSL3G) service with speeds of up to 6.5Mbps and expects to start offering IPTV from Q3 this year. Although the MMDS operation Antenna Digital (formerly known as Antenna Mikro) has been all-digital for a few months, Hungary's three leading MSOs - UPC, T-Kábel and FiberNet - have so far dragged their
feet over the introduction of digital TV services

Three combine for IPTV solution

BitBand, Latens Systems and Minerva Networks announce that they have integrated technologies to provide Independent Telephone Companies (IOCs) and Service Providers with an advanced secure and feature-rich IPTV solution. The integrated solution comprises BitBand's Vision servers and Maestro video delivery Management Suite, Latens FCAS content and revenue protection and Minerva's iTVManager middleware.

The companies say the combined technological expertise and accumulated field experience brought to this partnership ensures fast time to market and minimized risk to IP Service Providers deploying the most innovative IPTV services. "IPTV operators face a difficult choice when choosing between single-vendor and multi vendor approaches. However, by integrating BitBand, Latens and Minerva technologies we offer the best of both approaches:
a pre-integrated solution that is based on industry leading components that are feature-rich and fast to deploy,¨ says Dean Kashlan, GM and VP Americas, Latens.
